ATC-sized Tag Flip Book

After making 4 projects (accordion book4″x6″ tag flip albumtag flip book and 3″ square tag flip album)  and one Artist Trading Card using 5 sheets of 12″x12″ papers from the Vicki Boutin Colour Study collection, I was left with about half a sheet of the paper Line Drawing and a quarter of the Sticker Book yet unused. While the sentiments can easily be kept for another future project, I decided to use up the other shaped stickers and as much paper scraps as possible, so that I won’t have anything from this paper collection left in my craft stash.

The cardboard base of the Sticker Book bears the same print as the paper Array of Colours. Initally I thought of making use of the thick stiff paper as the cover of a match book, but a measurement mistake forced me to trim the cardboard into smaller pieces of 2.5″ x 3.5″. The cardboard base for the Fernwood Tassels went the same way. These became the colourful bases for some quick collages using paper scraps and stickers.

As the reverse of the tags still bear the original product descriptions, I covered them up with the spare Line Drawing paper, thus creating double-sided tags. The remaining sheet was trimmed to make another 4 new tags.

It then became a challenge of how creative I can get with paper scraps and even sticker sheet trimmings! In the end, I even got out my circle punch for some variety in shapes instead of dealing with just different sized rectangular strips.

All the surfaces are splattered with Kaiser Mists white iridescent spray, and alternate corners of each tag are rounded for a more interesting shape. I also created reinforcement rings from the paper scraps for the thinner tags.

All 7 tags are hung from a blue metallic binder ring. I’m not really pleased with the ribbons and twine I selected for the tag flip – usually I pick colours seen in the tags but somehow the final combination of purple, pink and black & white doesn’t look as coordinated as that in the Colour Study collection. Perhaps I should try braiding up each set of strings for the tags to be used individually instead.

But for now, all the tags would go in my box as another double-sided tag flip book. Flip-through of this can be seen on my Instagram post.

Little 3″ Square Tag Flip Album

Sharing the last of my 4 planned projects, using 5 papers (12″x12″ each) and the 6 page Sticker Book from the Vicki Boutin Colour Study collection. After working on the previous 3 (here, here and here), I ran out of steam and took a long time (2 months!) to add the final finishing touches to this tag flip.

This project basically makes full use of the colourful 3″ squares of the paper Abstract as the background of the little tags, then I simply added stickers from the Sticker Book to create little collages. As you can see, I followed certain sketches (layouts) so as to work fast and simple.

The dark colours of the paper Line Drawing provided contrast, and helped use up these scraps from the previous projects.

Coloured reinforcement rings ensure the tags could last. Some tags have distressed edges for variety. I also added adhesive pearls and puffy shaped stickers from my stash for a bit of 3D effect.

The reverse of the tags were left blank for little 2″ square photos or journaling, but I cut up two squares from the Abstract paper to serve as little pockets for 4 of the tags. The tab/clip shaped stickers in the Sticker Book identify the openings.

Another plastic binder ring holds all the 14 tags together. The last of the four coloured Tassels with Charms from the Fernwood collection completes the look.

Double-sided Tag Flip Book

Here’s the third project using 12″x12″ papers and the 6 page Sticker Book from the Vicki Boutin Colour Study collection (the first 2 projects being an accordian book and a tag album respectively). This consists of 7 tags cut from the paper New Ideas, making use of its rectangular blocks of rainbow colours.

This tag flip is in the C&S (clean and simple) style, with plenty of white space, but it’s doesn’t look boring because of the gradients of bright colours.

I simply attached appropriate sentiment stickers from the Sticker Book, then distressed or doodled some borders. Coloured reinforcement ring stickers strengthen the punched holes.

The tags are not of equal size, as I trimmed according to the coloured blocks of the paper, the largest tag being 5″ x 3″. Scraps from the previous 2 projects also found their way onto the pages.

The reverse of the paper New Ideas is a dark background full of written scribbles that shows up the colourful paper scraps beautifully. Doodles are made using a Sakura medium white gel pen.

The scraps that resulted from trimming off the coloured blocks are adorned with binder clip stickers from the Book. I cut up some long sentiments to make a note-like design. Unfortunately I forgot to take the punch hole position into consideration when creating the pages, and so the binder clips got cut off.

The whole double-side tag flip book is bound together using a coloured carabiner hook. A matching coloured Tassels with Charms from the Vicki Boutin Fernwood collection is added, together with a mini pom-pom and a coloured paper clip from my stash.

A flip-through video of the tag flip is on my Instagram.

4″ x 6″ Tag Flip Album

My second tag flip using the 6-page Sticker Book from the Vicki Boutin Colour Study collection involves the 12″x12″ paper Canvas. This was another quick project, cutting up the six 4″x6″ rectangles on the paper to serve as tags immediately.

Some tags are very simple, adding sentiments and details from the Sticker Book to make sense of the background motifs.

I’m pleased enough with some of the paper designs to just add some sticker accents or doodling to accentuate the overall arrangement.

Besides using my usual favourite staedtler triplus fineliner pens for doodling, I remembered my set of 3 Sakura Gelly Roll White pens, bought during the mid-year holiday to Kuala Lumpur. The Fine (0.5 mm) tip is too fine to write smoothly, but the Medium (0.8) and Bold (1.0) tips makes great accents against dark backgrounds. Just some short marks in a cluster are enough to bring a different feel to the rainbow rays.

But not all the rectangles on the paper Canvas are left untouched. One of them was trimmed to make use of the lovely aquamarine portion, and a sentiment banner from the paper Perspective – leftover from the previous accordion tag book – was added. This differently sized & shaped tag would also add variety to the tag flip.

I did not like the original printed sentiment on this tag, so I covered it up with a hopscotch of stickers from the Sticker Book. The sentiment banner is also cut from the paper Perspective. Added a black paper clip when I was searching for one to add as a charm to the binder ring.

I covered up the brightly coloured floral pattern on the reverse of the tags with white paper. This would serve as a place for 3R size photos, or some journaling. Not a large album since there’re only 5 such tags, but not all occasions in life require a host of pages for remembrance……anyway, the 2 paper clips included would allow additional photographs to be added securely if necessary.

The last tag is another smaller, banner-shaped one, cut from the paper Perspective. A sentiment and a couple of stickers from the Sticker Book complete the look.

Everything is hung from a plastic binder ring in my stash, and a matching coloured Tassel with Charm from the Fernwood collection added. Another simple tag flip using minimal supplies completed!

Tag Accordion Book

Was shopping in local store Art Friend and noticed how the bright colours of the Tassels with Charms from the Vicki Boutin Fernwood collection actually match the papers from the Colour Study collection. And so was inspired to create 4 different tag flips, each featuring a Tassel charm from the set. I bought 5 different papers (12″x12″ each) and also the 6 page Sticker Book from the Colour Study collection for this purpose. Sharing the 1st completed project here……

This features the tags printed on one side of the paper Perspective. Originally I wanted to make a tag flip, but in the end decided to turn it into an accordion instead, since I liked all the tags on one of the (two) rows, and so see no need to cut up everything. Instead, I just had to trim out the tag shapes and holes, then fold the entire row into a tag-shaped accordion book.

Then it’s a simple job to select pictures & sentiments from the Sticker Book, to build on the existing tag backgrounds to tell my own story.

Some designs I like so much, I did not alter much, just added highlights with fineliners or sticker accents.

The reverse of the paper Perspective is a riot of pinks, which I did not really like, and so covered up with tags cut out from the rest of the paper. I did try to create a couple of spreads with the bright background though, the beautiful white-lined stickers in the book making this job much easier.

To provide contrast to the bright colours, I chose to make use of the dark colours of the paper Line Drawing (the black & white circle). This paper dolly – and the scrap of white paper on the page below – are the only additional items I used to create the pages of this tag accordion.

I extended the 5-tag long accordion by adding a 2-fold tag, thus creating a 12-page, 6-tag long double-sided accordion book. Upon completion, I chose one page to be the front cover, then selected a matching Tassel to add to the tag book. A coloured carabiner snap hook keeps the accordion closed.

A brainwave led me to add the binder clip sticker to this “so Noted” page. Another sticker goes on the reverse page, so there’s a cohesive look no matter which direction the book opens in. A flip through video of this tag accordion book is on my Instagram post.

Found a charm from my stash that would not only match the Tassel, but also the back of the book! So now this is truly a double-sided tag accordion book! I can’t decided which cover I like better though……
